About Kep
Kep (in Khmer: ខេត្តកែប, UNGEGN: Kêb, ALA-LC: Kaep “kaep”) is Cambodia’s smallest province, both in area and population — covering just 336 km² and home to around 41,798 people. Despite its size, Kep offers a unique charm and tranquil coastal beauty that continues to attract travelers seeking peace, nature, and heritage.
Kep became a separate province on December 22, 2008, following a Royal Decree that redefined boundaries and separated Kep Municipality and Damnak Chang’aeur District from Kampot province. It now stands as one of Cambodia’s newest provinces, along with Pailin, Sihanoukville, and Tboung Khmum.
The provincial capital, also named Kep, is surrounded by quiet beaches, colonial-era ruins, and the lush Kep National Park — making it a perfect destination for nature lovers and those looking to escape the crowds.
