About Bavet
Bavet (បាវិត), pronounced Bavĭt (ɓaːʋət), is the largest urban center in Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia. It serves as an international border crossing point between Cambodia and Vietnam, with its Vietnamese counterpart being Mộc Bài in Tây Ninh Province.
Bavet is designated as one of Cambodia’s special economic zones (SEZ), hosting industries such as textile manufacturing and bicycle production. Nevertheless, the city’s economy is most notably driven by casinos and cockfighting arenas, which attract many Vietnamese visitors.
Following Cambodia’s decentralization policies, Bavet was officially upgraded from a commune to a municipality through a sub-decree in December 2008. The city now features approximately 10 to 12 casinos of varying sizes and 6 to 7 zones developed by foreign investors, marking significant growth. Additionally, the 2-kilometer-long Neak Loeang Bridge, funded by Japan and completed in April 2015, is the longest bridge in Cambodia, further supporting the area’s development.
